An American in rural France (portraits of amusing locals, delicious meals, annoying contractors…) may not be the most original premise for a book, but cookbook author Susan Loomis Herman does a good job of bringing the tempting smells and flavors of Normandy to life for readers less fortunate than her.
What she does best is present some fine traditional French cuisine in her recipe selections—Gateau au Chocolat de Mamy, Civet D’Agneau (Hearty Lamb Stew), and Roti de Cuisse de Sanglier (Roasted Leg of Wild Boar) are a few favorites. This is a warm and enthusiastic culinary memoir that takes place in an enviable setting.
This book is a nice companion for those who love her French Farmhouse Cookbook (one of our favorites), and want more recipes.
