Review

Bold, Unfussy, Irresistible, Real. That’s Tyler Florence’s philosophy towards food and how he introduces readers to his first cookbook, Tyler Florence’s Real Kitchen. Fans of Florence’s Food Network show, Food 911, where he rescues home cooks from stovetop disasters will recognize his humor and “cool” approach to cooking.

His recipes have something to please all tastes, some Asian (Hot and Sour Noodle Bowl with Prawns), some Italian (Asparagus Proscuitto-Roasted Figs, Braised Leeks with Smoked Bacon and Tomato), tucked in with some American standards (New England Clam Chowder).

The clean layout is as un-fussy and approachable as the recipes themselves, all presented with simple, clear instructions. Beautiful photographs (plenty of Tyler and friends, of course) complete the package.

This is a collection of appealing, doable, and flavorful dishes for simple entertaining. We love the fun way the recipes are organized—One Pot Wonders, Weekend Brunch, Dinner With Friends, Food for Great Outdoors, A Little on the Side… they all sound like great excuses for parties!
