Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook is a solid collection of sweet and savory baking recipes from America’s favorite homemaker. Ideal for new bakers, The Baking Handbook offers up over 200 fairly traditional recipes handily organized; there’s cookies, muffins, pastries, pies, cakes, yeast breads, quick breads, pizzas, loafs and a few more ‘special occasion’ offerings such as Martha’s Mocha-Pistachio Wedding Cake. The cookie section alone is worth the cover price and the blueberry muffin recipe is already a household favorite. With a thorough section on yeast breads this is also a good book for those who want to try their hand at baking bread from scratch and have a good repertoire of bread recipes on the shelf. This is not a re-hash of previously released recipes rather a well balanced selection of new offerings all very nicely laid out and thoroughly explained.
Each section in Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook is introduced with an ‘inventory’ of Martha’s favorite baking tools and gadgets, all beautifully itemized and photographed, a nice wish list for any baker. The book opens with general baking tips to get even the most novice bakers ready to tackle any of the recipes.
As with all of her books, each recipe is beautifully styled and photographed, as are many of the techniques and the design is first-rate. Destined to be another Martha classic.
